Although there was the threat of the first Nor’easter of 2007, the weather was chilly but clear at Historic Batsto Village. It provided for a nice walk thru the village to the worker’s homes.
The standard displays wereopen. but the real treat was the volunteers dressed in Victorian costume with the homes decorated for an 1890’s Christmas.
One has to remember Christmas in the 1890’s bore little resemblence to today’s holiday. Christmas trees were small and often decorated onlyw ith Christmas cards.
The Mansion is undergoing renovations and is closed to the public. This was the first time the Living History Victorian Christmas was celebrated in the worker’s cottage displays.

I haven’t been to Batsto Village since I was a kid…it was a great blast from the past. I also just figured out that I could watch the video full screen by clicking on the little box at the bottom. Video is such a great feature to have on a blog! Is it hard to do?

Batsto is quite fun. We’ve made trips there on New Year’s Day, when the weather is good. It’s extremely quite (most everybody else is home!) and you can almost feel the history.
As for having video of the Pine Barrens on the site, it’s what I do, so I have some fun with it. There are various plug ins you can use with blogs, but as you can see I use Revver.com. I just find it easier to use than worrying about server space and bandwidth issues.
